History of the chapter

The PRME Chapter Middle East (formerly PRME Chapter MENA) has evolved over the years and continues to focus on responsible management education and sustainable development in the Middle East region. The upcoming 10^th PRME Chapter Middle East Regional Forum, taking place on the 4^th and 5^th December 2023 under the theme of “Climate Leadership and Societal Impact” will be a significant event in promoting sustainable practices and responsible management in the region.

The PRME Middle East and North Africa (PRME Chapter MENA) had its roots in discussions and initiatives that began at regional forums as early as the 2010s. Key milestones include:

10th PRME MENA Regional Forum

The theme of the 10th PRME Chapter Middle East Regional Forum “Climate Leadership and Societal Impact” is timely and relevant. It highlights the importance of addressing climate change and its societal consequences through responsible management education. The event is scheduled for 4 and 5 December 2023 at the University of Dubai, UAE and is expected to serve as a platform for discussions, panels, fireside chats and action on these critical issues.

The start of 2023 marked the renaming of PRME Chapter MENA to PRME Chapter Middle East. This change reflects a broader focus on the entire Middle East region and aligns with the mission of the Principles for Responsible Management Education. The engagement of PRME Chapter Africa to serve the North African community shows a commitment to responsible management education throughout the African continent.

2022

In September 2021, further to the Pandemic and the paradigm shift the region had witnessed, a Provisional Committee was formed with the aim of revitalizing the PRME Middle East and North Africa Chapter.

9th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2019, the Regional Forum was held at De Montford University of Dubai, UAE under the theme of “Partnership for Change” furthering the mission of responsible management education in the region.

8th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2018, the 8th PRME MENA Regional Forum was hosted at Zayed University in Dubai, UAE under the theme of “Social Enterprise in Support of the UN SDGs”. The forum highlighted the importance of social entrepreneurship and sustainable development goals in responsible management education.

7th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2017, the 7th PRME MENA Regional Forum was hosted at the Suliman Olayan School of Business at the American University of Beirut emphasizing among the various stakeholders the region’s commitment to responsible management education.

6th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2016, the 6th PRME MENA Regional Forum was hosted for a second time at the School of Business at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

5th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2015, the Regional Forum was hosted by the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Graduate School of Business at the German Jordanian University in Amman, Jordan.

4th PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2014, the PRME MENA Regional Forum was held at the ESCA Ecole de Management in Casablanca, Morocco under the theme of “Regional and Local Challenges for Responsible Management Education”. This year marked the pivotal role in the formal establishment of the PRME MENA Chapter. The event marked the commitment of the region to address challenges related to responsible management education and sustainability on a local and regional level, an important milestone in the development of chapter which continued to promote these principles in the Middle East and North Africa in the years to come.

2014

3rd PRME MENA Regional Forum

One of the goals of the PRME MENA Chapter was to offer a faculty development program. This goal was realized as part of the 3rd PRME MENA Regional Forum which took place in November of 2013 at the University of Dubai in the UAE.

2nd PRME MENA Regional Forum

In 2012, the PRME Chapter MENA was officially endorsed by participants at the forum which was organized by the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) in Lebanon.

2012

1st PRME MENA Regional Forum

The idea of having a PRME Chapter MENA was initially discussed at the 1st PRME MENA Regional Forum in 2011 which was hosted by the School of Business at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. The forum served as a platform for the early discussions and planning related to the establishment of PRME in the MENA region.
